I have to remind myself that for decades after leaving New Orleans in the ‘80s, and in the years before social media and year-round online college football content, I followed and loved this university’s athletic teams without any extraordinary fan anxiety other than the usual fear of losing successful (winning percentage-wise) head coaches to other programs or the personal umbrage I felt when a successful season did not seem to be more widely appreciated in the broader college football community.
