Make Your Year-End Giving Make a Difference

Dear Valued Subscriber,

You have heard us preach the value of contributing to the Green Wave Talent Fund and we are writing to you to request that you consider the Green Wave Talent Fund in your annual charitable giving. As year-end approaches, we are encouraging FTW subscribers to “Make Your Year-End Giving Make a Difference” by donating to the Green Wave Talent Fund at this critical time.

Why is it a critical time? Efforts to retain current players will begin in earnest in mere weeks. The new rules allow for only one transfer portal period – January 2 through January 16, 2026. This is a significant change from past years that involved two transfer portal windows for football. We know from our time administering the Fear The Wave Collective that funds must be in hand in time to budget the total spending available for retention of current players and attracting new players in the transfer portal. As we saw last year, there will be no shortage of programs out there attempting to poach our best players, and the football staff needs to be able to lay out for our potential returnees clearly and decisively the financial package that will be available to them for staying at Tulane. Correspondingly, we need to be able to know how much we have available to us to spend to attract players from other universities.

With year end approaching, it is a natural time for Tulane supporters to consider charitable giving before the end of year. Tulane’s development staff, led by Justin Berger, is ready and willing to assist not only you, but your network of family, friends and fellow Tulane supporters, in securing gifts to benefit the football roster. If you are so inclined, we invite you to encourage your network to give with the following message for you to edit as you deem appropriate:

Dear _____,

The end of 2025 is rapidly approaching and with that is an opportunity to consider your year-end charitable giving. I encourage you to join me to “Make Your Year-End Giving Make a Difference” by contributing to the Green Wave Talent Fund now.

Tulane has enjoyed remarkable success since the advent of the NIL era in no small part because individuals like us have given generously first to the Fear the Wave Collective and now to the Green Wave Talent Fund to ensure that our football staff has the resources necessary to retain and attract top talent. How successful has Tulane been in the NIL era compared to years past? Consider this: the NIL era began in 2022. Since that time, Tulane is 38-10 overall and 25-3 in conference play, making it to three conference championship games to date, winning one. It of course has made three bowl games in there years, has already qualified for one this year, and it has won a NY6 bowl game. In contrast, from 1999 to 2021, in two-plus decades before the NIL era began, Tulane’s record was 97-180 overall and 52-128 in conference play, making zero championship games. In that time frame, it appeared in only 5 bowl games. The difference is undeniable.

People like you and me are the difference. Tulane has succeeded because of the generosity of people like us. The year end focus is particularly relevant now that the NCAA has determined that there is only one transfer portal window for players to change schools. The transfer portal window is January 2 through 16. It is therefore mission critical for our staff to know the full extent of the support it has in place before the transfer portal window opens.

You may make your gift today by contacting the Tulane Athletics Development staff by phone at (504) 865-5356 or email at greenwaveclub@tulane.edu.

I want to thank Jake for making Justin aware of my post. Justin called me and we had a good discussion of a couple of issues that affect our fans in the Westfeldt Terrace seats and one that affects the whole stadium and has Tulane leaving money on the table. I know he doesn't have the ultimate authority to make the decisions but I am confident he will follow though with those that do and try to get those changes made. That's why I specifically wanted to talk to him as I know him to be thorough.

I called Justin Berger a few weeks ago never called me back. Been buying season tickets to football, basketball and baseball for 40 years and giving to the Green Wave Club since it was originally the Green Wave Club, then became the Tulane Athletic Fund and is now back to being the Green Wave Club. No way to do business. Be better.
