Tulane Season Preview Part 3: Tight Ends

Welcome to Part 3 of our nine-part series getting you ready for the Green Wave’s 2024 campaign.

Alex Bauman, #87

One of the heroes of the Cotton Bowl, Bauman was an absolute iron man in 2023. He played in every game and logged at least 56 snaps in every contest after the Wave’s early October bye week, including the Conference Championship Game and the Military Bowl. He turned 47 targets into 35 receptions and 285 yards, on the season, which was good for an average of 8.1 yards per reception. While the yardage total doesn’t jump off the page, his 5 receiving touchdowns is more indicative of his true value; Tulane quarterbacks registered a 116.0 quarterback rating when targeting #87 in 2023.

Reggie Brown, #9

Brown, now a senior, has been called upon in the passing game quite sparingly over his first three seasons with the Green Wave, and some casual fans may not know the name. They should, however, as while he was only targeted 4 times in 2023, he actually logged 320 snaps with the offense, and is one of the better run blockers at his position in the AAC. During the spring, Brown and Joshua Goines got a good bit of run with the first team offense and really raised their level of play. On the list of returners that elevated their stock on the Tulane offense, during the spring of 2024, Brown and Goines are easily in the top 4-5 along with Arnold Barnes and Dontae Fleming.

Joshua Goines, #80

Goines redshirted in 2023 and comes into this season with four more years of eligibility remaining. He was a three-star recruit and one of 247’s top 100 tight ends in the class of 2023, having committed to Tulane during the summer of 2022, before his senior year of high school at Reedy High School in Frisco, Texas. Goines displayed really strong athleticism during spring practices in 2024 and showed that he can be an asset in the passing game. He presents as a long and lanky option that is shifty in the open field and worked hard over the summer to continue to add muscle.

Anthony Miller, #85

Miller, a redshirt freshman, transferred to Tulane during the spring 2024 portal after spending one season at Indiana. Miller checks in at 6’5”, 265 pounds, and fortunately only appeared in 4 games for the Hoosiers in 2023 (a player may participate in up to 4 games and still redshirt). Miller was a three-star recruit out of high school, hails from Duluth High School in Duluth, Georgia. Prior to selecting Indiana, he held offers from Florida, Florida State, Louisville, Memphis, Minnesota, UCF, Duke, Pittsburgh and USF, among others.

Guiseann Mirtil, #86

Mirtil is a true freshman from Winter Haven High School in Winter Haven, Florida. A priority for the young man has to be to continue to add strength and muscle. He has added 5 pounds, thus far, but is listed at 6’2”, 215 pounds. Mirtil was originally committed by the prior staff at Tulane in June of 2023 and keeping him in the fold was a priority by Coach Sumrall’s staff upon arrival in December of 2023. Sure enough, Mirtil signed his letter of intent on December 20, 2023. He chose Tulane over offers from Liberty, Troy (like I said, keeping him in the fold was a priority, after this staff was after him while at Troy), Air Force, Arkansas State, Coastal Carolina, UAB, and Western Kentucky, among others.
